Camp Vakkakoski is located where two big rivers from the mountains: Rautas and Torne rivers, are gathering. The two rivers are floating together at the end of a 3 km long rapid of Torne River. There are paths to follow in the summer along the sure. There is birch and pine forest that borders the mountains. There are many different biotopes. The area borders Alajaure National park. The nearest road is 10 km away. You can have many experiences there during all seasons.
How to go to Camp Vakkakoski
In the winter you can participate in the ordinary dog sledging or snowmobile tours to the camp. You can also do cross-country skiing on your own to the camp.
In the summer you can participate in the ordinary boat-tour or canoeing tour (easy white water canoeing) to the camp.
You can also go by helicopter. This is the only way to go to Camp Vakkakoski in the short period in late spring when the ice is too week and it’s impossible to go there by boat because it’s still to much ice in the river. There is the same situation in the autumn when ices are to week.
There are no roads in the area.
